Every guest is registered at the desk before going through, so bring valid photo ID and allow a few minutes.

The gaming floor is for over-18s only. Under Think 25, anyone who could pass for younger is asked for a passport, a photocard driving licence or a card with the PASS hologram.

Chips are paid for in pounds, in cash or with a debit card, at the table or the cage. Credit cards cannot be used for gambling in Great Britain, and the house gives no credit.

Casino spending never reaches the hotel bill. Buying or cashing chips worth £2,000 or more brings identity checks required by anti-money-laundering law.

The room side

Rooms are ready from 15:00 and due back at 12:00; you must be 18 to check in, and the hotel counts 404 rooms. May Fair Kitchen and The May Fair Bar handle food and drink, and room service is offered. There is a spa and a gym but no pool. Accessible rooms, for wheelchair users and guests with hearing loss, come in two room categories; note that some spa areas involve steps.
