How Each Fact Earns Its Place
Nothing here is estimated, remembered or lifted from a review. This page sets out where each fact comes from, how disagreements are settled and how the letter grades are worked out.
Sources, in order of trust
- Casino facts (opening hours, dealing hours, entry, dress, games) come from each operator's own venue page and from the Gambling Commission's public register. Checked on 19 September 2026.
- Hotel facts (check-in, facilities, access, parking) come from each hotel's own website. Checked from 18 to 20 September 2026, and re-verified against their sources on 20 September 2026.
- Booking or local listings are used only when the hotel publishes nothing on a point, and such facts are marked as coming from a third party.
When a fact is not published anywhere we can check, the page says "not published" and leaves the gap open. The last full review was on 20 September 2026.
When two sources disagree
- If a venue's own pages give different hours, we show the narrower set and say so on the hotel page.
- If the register and an operator disagree about who runs a venue, the register prevails.
Which hotels qualify
A hotel is listed only when a licensed land-based casino is:
- in the same building as the hotel;
- in the same complex;
- on the same named estate; or
- in the neighbouring building, and the hotel itself calls it next door. One hotel qualifies this way.
A casino down the road, however handy, does not count. The rule currently admits 10 hotels in England and Scotland. No Welsh venue qualifies, and Northern Ireland has no licensed casinos, so it is out of scope.
Examined and left out
| Venue | Why it is not listed |
|---|---|
| The Hippodrome Casino | No hotel in the building |
| Genting Casino Stratford at Westfield | The hotels are separate buildings |
| Grosvenor Russell Square | Closed |
| The Trocadero project | Casino not trading |
| Northampton Sol Central | Casino closed in 2017 |
| Genting Club Sheffield with voco Sheffield | No official source puts them in one building, complex or estate |
Distances without the detours
Distances to stations and airports are straight lines, point to point. They ignore streets and stairs, so they are always shorter than the journey. Walking times appear only when a hotel or operator has published one, and the page names who did.
Five letters from published facts
Each hotel carries a letter from A to D in five parts, computed from published facts alone. Nobody's impression goes into them. The grades page shows every hotel side by side.
| Part | What is counted | A | B | C | D |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Doorstep | How the casino is tied to the hotel | Same building | Same complex, or next door | Same estate | Only by the step down noted below |
| Doors | Weekly opening hours of the casino floor | 168 hours | 120 or more | 90 or more | Below 90 |
| Dealing | Weekly live-table hours | 140 or more | 90 or more | 60 or more | Below 60 |
| Arrival | Straight line to the nearest station | Up to 0.3 km | Up to 0.6 km | Up to 1.2 km | Beyond 1.2 km |
| Stay | Count of: spa, pool, gym, restaurant or bar, accessible rooms described by the hotel, room service | 5–6 | 4 | 2–3 | 0–1 |
Doorstep drops one letter when the link from hotel to casino rests only on independent listings. Dealing shows "n/p" when live-table hours are not published.
What a letter leaves out
The grades measure convenience and nothing else. They say nothing about service, décor or value, and nothing about anything that happens at the tables. A D for Arrival means a longer straight line to the station, not a lesser hotel.
